We're asking the nation to give migraine a break

Migraine Australia has launched a campaign to ask our leaders - and the nation - to give migraine a break.

Migraine is undergoing a revolution.

In recent years, everything we know - or thought we knew - about migraine and how to manage it has fundamentally changed.

The very definition of what migraine is has changed. The 'vascular headache' theory has been debunked, and migraine has been redefined as a complex, genetic, sensory processing disorder that causes the brain to be hyper-reactive.

It's time to give migraine a break.

Migraine is the most underfunded, underdiagnosed and undertreated condition in the country.

While the science of migraine has changed dramatically, almost everything else has not kept up. We are still routinely denied timely and affordable access to medical care and support. We are still consistently discriminated against and deliberately excluded.

However, we're just about to reach the tipping point. There's now a significant number of people who have been on the new CGRP medications long enough to stabilise their migraine and get their lives back. They're showing what is possible, and providing hope to the millions of Australians living with migraine.

Now is the time to take migraine seriously, give migraine a break, and fundamentally change not just our lives, but the nation.

Give migraine a break to give the economy a boost.

The biggest reason you should care about migraine is because of the drain - and the potential boost - to the economy. Not investing in migraine is costing you money.

Economic analysis by Deloitte Access Economics found the total economic cost of migraine in Australia is $35.7 billion per year.

Now that the migraine revolution is giving us the power to manage our condition for the first time, we can slash that. We can put hundreds of thousands of Australians back in to the workforce, reduce the absenteeism and presenteeism of millions more, and reduce the burden of migraine on our health and welfare systems, and on business, dramatically.

The opportunity of the migraine revolution is as big as the scale of the problem.

Give migraine a break by giving migraine your vote.

For most people who live with migraine, asking for help is not something we are good at. We've been told our entire lives to suck it up, taught to hide the pain and distress, and not complain about anything. We don't ask for help.

The migraine revolution is our moment to change that.

We don't have to live like this anymore, and we do have the power to change things. But it means that each of us in the migraine community needs to be a little bit brave, and prepared to say to others that this is important to you.

Politicians can't help unless we ask them for help, and tell them what we need.

We need you to give migraine your vote. Pledge your vote to migraine, and make migraine the number one thing you decide your vote on in the upcoming federal election.
